India cement demand to grow by 8% in next year

Eurocement to build US$500m cement plant in Voronezh region

Eurocement Group has announced $500m plans to build a cement factory in Voronezh region. The plant is reportedly to be located in the region’s Podgorensky district. The plant’s projected annual capacity is up to 2 mln tons of cement. Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2009 and last up to two years.

Siberian Cement suspends investments in all new projects

According to a new investment program of the second largest cement holding of Russia - Siberian Cement Holding Company OJSC, the company has suspended investments in all new projects. Only a line at Krasnoyarsk Cement Plant (1.2Mta) is under construction. The holding will start constructing another five plants with a capacity of 10Mt and with the volume of investments over US$1.5bn in 2-4 years, when, according to analysts forecasts, demand for cement will be restored, Kommersant reported

Titan advances in Egypt

Lafarge Malayan pre-tax profit up

Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd announced that pre-tax profit for its second quarter ended June 30, 2009, rose to RM90.363m from RM66.993m in the corresponding quarter last year. However, revenue was only marginally higher, at RM630.893m from RM630.618m previously, the group said in a statement on Thursday. CRH first half turnover down, cautious on recovery hopes

With CRH’s first half turnover down by 14.6 per cent to €8292m, the company is taking a more cautious approach to its outlook.

EBITDA declined by 41 per cent to €651m, the trading falling by 66.2 per cent to €241m and the pre-tax profit dropping by 82.2 per cent to €108m. CRH said the first quarter of the year was particularly severe, with the rate of decline easing in the second three months.

Vietnam firm to start work on new plant

Dong Lam Cement Stock Company will kick off construction of the Dong Lam cement plant worth VND3.6 trillion (US$202m) in the central province of Thua Thien Hue in the first quarter of 2010, the Vietnam Economic Times newspaper said Tuesday.   The plant, to be located in Phong Xuan and Phoang An communes in Phong Dien district, will have a designed production capacity of 1.5Mta of cement.   It is expected to turn out the first batches of cement in the first quarter of 2012.
