Argentina’s cement market expands 25% in November

Cement demand in Argentina surged 25.1 per cent YoY and edged up two per cent MoM to 1,091,549t in November 2020, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.  The market was entirely supplied by domestic output. Cement prices in southern India have advanced around 18 per cent YoY to INR393/bag (US$5.3) in the 3QFY20-21, according to Motilal Oswal. On a QoQ basis, prices are flat as hikes in November 2020 have offset the decline seen in the September-October period. The value of Iran’s cement exports in the first seven months of the current Iranian calendar year (20 March-21 October) reached more than US$163.4m, down 11 per cent compared to the same period last year. The quantity of cement exports also fell 24 per cent YoY to 7,630,428t.

Cement dispatches in Colombia increased 5.2 per cent YoY to 1.169Mt in October 2020 when compared with 1.111Mt delivered in October 2019, according to the national statistics agency, DANE. Vietnam is estimated to have produced 90.3Mt of cement in the first 11 months of 2020, up 3.4 per cent YoY, according to data from the country’s General Statistics Office. In November, cement output is projected to have risen 4.6 per cent YoY to 9.1Mt. Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy denies reports about electricity supply

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has denied reports regarding the cessation of electricity supply to certain cement producers. According to the dispatch centre, the Akhangaran cement plant received 605,000kWh of electricity on 24 November. On average, this plant is supplied with 540,000kWh of electricity per day. Elsewhere, the Kuvasay cement plant consumes an average of 332,000kWh electricity per day.

Tanzania cement plants inspected for hoarded cement

Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Saturday ordered all regional commissioners to inspect all cement factories in the country and prosecute owners found hoarding the commodity.
