The Puerto Rican cement market contracted 3.1 per cent to 58,328t in October 2020 when compared with the previous month, according to the country’s statistics institute. Cement production rises in Qatar

Qatar’s Industrial Production Index for September 2020 declined 7.7 per cent YoY and 3.9 per cent compared to August 2020, according to the Planning and Statistics Authority. The production of cement and other non-metallic mineral products rose 9.1 per cent MoM in September. On an annual basis, production also advanced 3.1 per cent during the month.

US August shipments down sharply by 7% YoY

Tanzania’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has attributed the country’s recent high cement prices on non-production by four cement manufacturers in the country that had gone into maintenance. A 50kg bag of cement usually retails for TZS15,000 (US$6), but according to the National Bureau of Statistics data for October, the price had risen by 30 per cent to TZS22,000 in parts of the country. Indonesia's cement demand fell 9.7 percent to 17,499,807t in the 3Q20 from 19,384,326t in the 3Q19, according to the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI). The decline in domestic cement consumption was mitigated by a 62.4 per cent surge in exports, which increased to 3,128,985t in the 3Q20 from 19,384,326t in the year-ago period. PPC has reached a settlement agreement with South Africa’s Competition Tribunal on the cement cartel case, bringing the 12-year matter to a close, reports Business Weekly.
