EBRD to provide Garadagh Cement with EUR 170m loan

The EBRD is considering arranging the financing of Garadagh Cement OJSC modernisation and expansion. The company is planning to increase clinker production capacity from 2616tpd to 4000tpd and annual cement production capacity from 1.1Mt to 1.7Mt, without clinker imports. The Binani Group has been allotted four hectares near Port Louis by the Mauritius Port Authority for setting a 0.5Mt grinding unit along with a captive power plant. Mr Vinod Juneja, Managing Director, Binani Cement, said the company had asked for 10ha of land as it intends to expand the capacity of the planned grinding unit to 1Mt. Italcementi’s Turkish profits virtually eliminated last year

Gansu Qilianshan Cement Co., Ltd. Holcim (New Zealand) to proceed with new plant, pending environmental ruling

Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd chief executive Mr Jeremy Smith told the Environment Court Holcim hearing yesterday that he would recommend to Holcim’s New Zealand board of directors that the $300m Weston plant and its quarries proceed, reports the Otago Daily Times. At the earliest, that would be late this year.   The board’s recommendation would then go to Holcim’s parent board in Zurich for final approval. Essroc to mothball Lawrence County plant

Essroc Cement Corp. will mothball its Lawrence County plant in May, possibly closing the factory for good, according to Bizjounrals.com.   The Nazareth, Pa.-based cement manufacturer filed a WARN notice with the state March 2, stating that the layoffs of 113 employees may be permanent.   Essroc’s Bessemer site supplies cement to customers in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Sharaf Group, one of UAE’s largest business conglomerates, is "reviewing" the list of projects that it will launch this year. Cement sales in the Southern African Customs Union fell 18 percent to 1.02 million tons last month, the Johannesburg-based Cement and Concrete Institute said yesterday. The union includes South Africa, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia, reports Bloomberg.
