Brazil’s Feb cement sales fall 3.2 per cent

Baltsem ends 2008 in profit, Ukraine

Baltsem Company, one of three largest Ukrainian cement producers, ended 2008 with a net profit of UAH278m, reported Ukrainian News. Assets of the company by late 2008 totaled UAH971.459m, long-term liabilities UAH2.314m and current liabilities UAH 132.641m. Baltsem ended 2007 with a profit of UAH354.8m. The company is part of the Eurocement Group Ukraine (Kyiv), which is a subsidiary of the Eurocement Group international industrial holding company (Moscow).

Cement prices in the Philippines remain high despite the lifting of tariffs on imported cement, but the government has said duty free importation has helped stabilised prices, according to local press reports. Cement producers in India are to hike prices by Rs5 per 50kg bag across the country in a couple of weeks said dealers in Mumbai and Gujarat.  This comes on the back of improved demand as well as increasing sales. Habesha Cement has sold 70,000 shares worth 70 million birr in the last four months. The par value of each share is 1000 birr and the minimum amount of shares an individual can buy is five. Anhui Conch Cement Co. plans to spend at least CNY20bn (US$2.9bn) in five years, adding 10Mt of capacity each year, reports Bloomberg News. Dalmia Cement (Bharat) confirmed it will be increasing its production capacity from the present 3.5Mt to about 9Mta before the end of this calendar year.
