Shree Cements Ltd has raised prices of cement in the past month in the range of 2-4 rupees per bag because of rising costs, an official said on Wednesday. "There is no price rise due to shortage but it is done as an effort to cover up cost," said HMBangur, managing director, told television channel CNBC-TV18. Adani Enterprises has chalked out plans to foray into cement sector. The group’s entity Adani Enterprise is aiming to set up a 5Mta cement and clinker unit in Kutch for an estimated investment of Rs 1800 crore. Holcim will be moth-balling the plant in Mason City at the end of the year. This means they will stop operations, but won’t physically close the plant. The company plans to keep their permits valid so they can restart operations at a moment’s notice if the economy turns around. The cement market in Romania will stagnate in 2009, because the lack of liquidities and difficult access to financing will have an important impact on consumption, the president of CIROM, Mihai Rohan said. Pakistan cement exports grew by 60 per cent to 6.83Mt during eight months (Jul-Feb) of the current 2008-09 fiscal year against 4.26Mt of last year, reports the Business Recorder.
