Mangalam Cement reported 26.04% increase in net profit to Rs 257.45m for the quarter ended December 2007 as compared with Rs 204.26m in the corresponding quarter, last fiscal. Net sales for the quarter rose 6.73% to Rs 1,192.56m as against Rs 1,117.34m in the same quarter, a year ago. Construction of three new cement plants to kick off in Belarus this year

The construction of three new cement plants will kick off in Belarus this year, Construction Minister Alyaksandr Selyaznyow said at the ministry’s board meeting in Minsk on January 25. Azerbaijan cement production reached 1.778Mt representing an increase of 10.6% compared with 2006.   Garadagh Cement is the main local producer and has an annual capacity of 1-1.4Mt of cement, which is good enough to meet 50% of the domestic demand. The rest is imported.     The 2006 domestic production of cement equalled 1.554Mt being merely 0.1% up on 2005. Turkey’s Unye plans TRY 13.5m investment this year

Cement producer Unye Cimento unveiled its investment plans, production and revenue targets for this year with a statement issued to the Istanbul Stock Exchange. The company plans TRY 13.5m investment and targets TRY 233m sales revenue. Unye Cimento projects 1.5Mt of clinker and 1.8Mt of cement production and domestic clinker and cement sales are expected to be 80,000t and 1.2Mt, respectively. The company plans 80,000t of clinker and 0.6Mt of cement exports this year.  

Slowing demand in South Africa

Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) said its overall results were in line with forecasts, despite slower demand in cement and Eskom's rolling power cuts. SCC announced a 4Q07 net profit of Bt5.8bn, up 23.5% YoY but down 23.5% QoQ. Stripping out extra gain, normalised profit was Bt5.7bn, down 2.3% YoY but up 1.6% QoQ.
