Cimpor to invest EUR100m in Turkey 2007

Cimpor says it is to invest EUR100m to build a new cement unit in Turkey in 2007.   The new unit is expected to start production in 2009. Cimpor’s objective is to boost its production capacity in Turkey by 1Mta. At present, Cimpor’s annual cement output stands at 3.5Mt in the country, where it runs three units.     Cimpor also plans to increase its overall capacity to 40Mt in 2011, from the estimated 28Mt for 2007.

Cemex seals 15.3bn deal to buy Rinker

Cemex SA confirmed it has signed a deal to buy Australian building materials firm Rinker Group in a deal valued at US$15.3bn.     "The value of the total transaction, including Rinker’s debt, is about US$15.3bn," Cemex said in a statement late Monday.     In Australia Rinker said it had agreed to the bid, revised upward 22 per cent from Cemex’s first offer.     Rinker put the deal’s value at US$14.2bn, not including its debt.     The takeover offers Rinker shareholders US$15.85/share, US...

Two producers sign agreement with Bolivian Govt

Bolivian cement manufacturers Fancesa and Soboce signed an agreemeent for the provision of cement and its products for BOB 32. The new price of the 50kg that will be valid for one year, was decreased from BOB 43 and will be only for the construction of houses that are part of the plant promoted by the Bolivian government. Turkish production reaches record output

Turkey’s cement production rose 10 per cent in 2006, reaching a record amount of 47.5Mt.     According to the data by Turkey Cement Producers Union, cement production has increased 10 per cent in 2006 whereas cement exports dropped 27 per cent, mainly due to increase in domestic demand.     Last year 41.6Mt of the 47.5Mt cement produced in Turkey was consumed domestically.     The total amount of production in 2005 was 42.7Mt, of which 7.7Mt was exported.     Last year a large proportion...

Maintenance work worsens cement shortage in Zambia: minister

Peruvian domestic cement sales stood at 868,060t in the period January to February 2007, up 9.42 per cent YoY, the country’s Association of Cement Companies (Asocem) said on April 5, 2007.     Peru’s cement exports dropped 73.78 per cent YoY to 26,246t. Mexican cement maker  Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) will invest US$220m in 2007.     The money will be applied in transport equipment, storage capacity improvement and in the last stage of the construction of a plant in Colorado, central USA.
