Cimpor acquires 60% of Chinese cement producer

Portuguese cement group Cimpor said it had agreed to take a 60-per cent stake in Shandong Liuyuan New Type Cement from the Chinese manufacturer’s parent company, which will retain the remaining 40 per cent.    Cimpor said its Cimpor Chengtong cement Corp unit would pay EUR2.1m for the stake in Liuyuan New Type, which is based in Zaozhuang in the province of Shangdong.

Work starts on Dong Banh cement plants, Vietnam

Lafarge plans to double its production capacity in China in the next few years, according to the company’s chief executive officer. Kenya is facing a major shortage of cement due to rising exports to South Africa and to Sudan amid a booming domestic construction industry. Dalmia Cements Bharat Ltd is looking to set up a 4Mt greenfield cement manufacturing unit in Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and will cater to the southern markets. Cement prices up VND20,000/t, Vietnam

The Vietnam Cement Corporation has decided to raise the retail prices in the northern region of its PC30 and PC40 cement products by VND20,000 (US$1.25) per tonne.    The adjustment was due to increasing cost of imported materials while cement prices in the domestic market have remained unchanged over the past ten years. The corporation added that it would adjust the prices of cement gradually in accordance with cement consumption in each region.

Cement production up by 7.6 per cent, Ukraine

In September, cement production in the Ukraine rose by 7.6% compared with September 2005, to 1,418,000t, the State Statistics Committee has disclosed.     In September, cement production fell by 6.4% to compared with August.     In January-September, cement production rose by 9.4% compared with January-September 2005, to 10,156,000t.     As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in August, cement production rose by 14.1% compared with August 2005, to 1,515,000t.
