Bahrain ups cement production

Bahrain’s only cement producer is to undergo an expansion in order to boost its output, according to TradeArabia, citing the Gulf Daily News. The production capacity of the Arabian Gulf Cement Company’s Star Cement plant in Hidd is being upped from 250,000tpa to 360,000tpa, just over 20% of Bahrain’s yearly requirement. The AGCC started production in Bahrain in 2002.

Lafarge plans to double Chinese capacity

Lafarge, the world’s leading cement producer, plans to double its production capacity in China in the coming years, the company’s chief executive officer said yesterday. Taiwan Cement Corp (TCC), one of Taiwan’s largest cement producers, has resolved to tap the European marketplace, said TCC chairman Leslie Koo. Sri Lanka brings cement under government price control   Sri Lanka officials said Thursday that it would make cement an essential item, bringing it under government price control similar to cooking gas and milk powder.
