Cemex to build plant at UK’s Tilbury docks

Cemex has announced that it will invest US$49m in the construction of a grinding plant in Britain, specifically at England’s Tilbury port. The plant will produce 1.2Mta of CEM3, as of 2008 using imported slag from within Europe. The plant is part of the investment programme announced by Cemex early in 2006 and which totals US$500m (involving expansions of existing plants in the US, Spain, the UAE and Mexico).

CRH said yesterday it had agreed to buy a cement plant in Harbin in northeast China. The move comes after a lengthy period of testing the market, reports the Irish Times.
