Tajikistan increases output in 2019 by 400,000t

Tajikistan produced 4.2Mt of cement in 2019, an increase of 400,000t compared to the previous year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT). The country’s cement exports also rose by around 150,000t to 1.546Mt. Tajikistan reportedly earned US$68.1m from its cement export activities in 2019. Swiss cement deliveries down 5% in 2019

Deliveries by the Swiss cement industry fell by 4.9 per cent YoY to 1,034,914t in the fourth quarter of 2019 from 1,088,196t in the 4Q18. The latest figures published by Cemsuisse show a softening cement market after a promising first quarter with 4.8 per cent growth. Puerto Rican sales see 6% drop in 2019

Puerto Rican cement sales in 2019 declined 5.6 per cent to 569,485t in 2019 when compared with 2019, according to Sin Comillas. In 2018 sales had surged 38.9 per cent YoY as construction activity skyrocketed after Hurricane Maria with the arrival of government funds for reconstruction. However, following the rebound, economic activity fell in 2019. Local cement production decreased 6.7 per cent YoY to 518,864t. In 2018 production had increased by 44.6 per cent, the first rise since 2012.

Peruvian demand up 2% in December

Peru’s cement market expanded by 1.6 per cent to 996,000t in December 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production increased 1.2 per cent YoY but slipped 1.4 per cent MoM to 916,000t while clinker production fell by 13.3 per cent YoY and 6.3 per cent MoM to 792,000t in December 2019. Chile's cement demand up 3% in 11M19

Cement demand in Chile declined 2.5 per cent YoY in November 2019, according to the Chilean construction chamber, CChC. Consumption fell to 341,721t in November 2019 from 350,532t in the previous year. However, in the year to date the domestic cement market expanded by 3.3 per cent from 3.624Mt in the 11M18 to 3.743Mt in the 11M19.

DR Congo cement demand weakens in 10M19

Grey cement consumption in the Democratic Republic of Congo reached 390,279t in the first 10 months of 2019, according to ACP. Production reached 959,088t during the same period. The low demand reflects the slowdown in construction work in the building and public works sector. In 2018 cement demand reached 1,045,199t and domestic production 1,043,340t, according to Central Bank of Congo.

Domestic cement sales in Brazil advanced 1.6 per cent YoY to 4Mt in December 2019, according to the country’s National Cement Industry Union (SNIC).
