Cement prices in El Salvador largely stable in 2019

The ex-works cement price in El Salvador remained unchanged at US$7.57/42.5kg bag, reports the country’s construction chamber, Casalco. The retail price of a 42.5kg bag of cement increased from US$8.28 in January to peak at US$8.45 in June but then slipped to US$8.32 in August to a new high of US$8.37 in October. It closed the year at US$8.31, resulting in an average price of US$8.38 for the year.

Bangladesh extends bid dates for Payra coal/bulk terminal

US cement sales show modest gain in 2019

Cement sales edged up to US$12.5bn in 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Of this total 70-75 per cent of sales were to ready-mixed concrete producers, 10 per cent to concrete product manufacturers, 8-10 per cent to contractors and 5-12 to other customers. Salvadoran cement market expands 13% in 10M19

Apparent cement consumption in El Salvador increased 12.8 per cent YoY to 1,184,956t in 10M19 from  to 1,050,846t in the first 10 months of 2018, according to Casalco, the country’s construction chamber. In October alone, apparent cement consumption surged 23.5 per cent to 104,989t from 85,017t in October 2018. Cement prices in October reached US$7.57/bag of 42.5kg at the factory gate while on a retail level this was US$8.37/bag, including VAT.

Argentina’s cement market contracts 15% in January

Argentine cement consumption fell by 14.7 per cent YoY to 745,709t in January 2020, according to AFCP, the country’s cement association. The market was entirely supplied by domestic production and no imports were recorded. Output from Argentine cement plants reached 758,123t, down 14.3 per cent YoY from 884,363t in January 2018. Of this total, 12,414t were exported, representing a 19.6 per cent increase when compared with the year-ago period.

Turkey sees 30% decline in cement sales for the 11M19

Turkey’s cement sales fell 30 per cent YoY in the first 11 months of 2019, according to the Turkish Cement Manufacturers’ Association (TÇMB). The result has been linked to a slowdown in the housing market, with sales declining seven per cent YoY to 1.15m units in the 11M19. Cement production increased 2.8 per cent YoY in November 2019 to 5.3Mt, with house sales also advancing 54 per cent YoY during the same period.
