German Cement Industry sees 06 sales +4 per cent

Germany’s cement industry expects full-year sales up four per cent from 2005, helped by higher construction orders, Handelsblatt reports ahead of publication Friday, citing the president of the German association of cement makers, Andreas Kern.     After the first seven months, the industry’s sales were four per cent higher than in the year-ago period, Kern said according to the paper.      However, the industry’s growth isn’t sufficient yet to create new jobs, Kern said.   

RZD Assigns Cement Cars to Eurocement-Group JSC

Russian Railways JSC has assigned a part of its rolling stock of cement cars to Eurocement-Group JSC. Under the RZD telegram, several railway branches are to redeliver the RZD cement cars transporting the products of Eurocement-Group to the loading stations without charging the company. Under the agreement, Eurocement Group is to increase its shipment volumes in 2006, invest into the RZD rolling stock repair and provide its cement cars for transportation services.

Shares of Hanson jump in Cemex bid talk, UK

Shares in Britain’s Hanson rose more than four per cent on Wednesday as traders speculated that Mexico’s Cemex may make a bid for the building materials firm.    "There is a rumor that Cemex are looking at Hanson," said Jimmy Yates, trader at CMC Markets in London, one of several to mention the market talk.    Hanson declined to comment, as did top executives for Cemex .    "No comment. Grasim to commission plant in Himachal

The Aditya Birla Group firm, Grasim Cement Industries, is to build the proposed Rs 1,000 crore Sundernagar cement plant in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. Grasim Industries has acquired the works from Harish Chandra Company to set up the Sundernagar cement plant, the source said. A subsidiary of Russia’s LSR Group, Tsement, plans to build a EUR160m euro cement plant in the Leningrad Region by 2009, the press service of the region’s government said Wednesday.    The plant will produce 1-2Mta of cement, Nikolai Knyazev, senior engineer of Tsement, said.     A commission of the regional government has approved the construction of the cement plant, the press service said.     Austria’s Asamer and Hufnagl Holding GmbH will be Tsement’s consultant for the construction. ...

Al Ghurair Investments plans for cement sector, UAE

Sultan Al Ghurair, vice president of Al Ghurair Investments, based in the United Arab Emirates, said that the company planned to establish a cement plant with US$200m investment. The plant will be established in the city of Kutahya. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 2Mt cement and 1.55Mt of clinker, he furthered.

Buzzi Unicem grows in Eastern Europe and Mexico

Turnover at Buzzi Unicem increased by 9.9% during the first half of 2006 to EUR 1,518.6m, with the EBITDA advancing by 28.1% to EUR420.2m, while the pre-tax profit improved by 49.9% to EUR 83.3m.  Lower volumes in Italy, Germany and Luxembourg were more or less compensated for by higher sales in much of eastern Europe and in Mexico and group cement shipments were just 0.5% down at 15.5m tonnes.
