The cement sector, which has seen a phenomenal growth in demand in the past two years, is facing a supply-side constraint. Lafarge Surma Plant starts cement production, Bangladesh

The Lafarge Surma plant in Bangladesh  has started production in its cement mills at Chhatak in Sunamganj district after successful operation of a vertical raw mill and a kiln.     It is the country’s first fully dry process cement in the private sector, said a press release.     Lafarge along with Spanish cement maker Cementos Molins set up the state-of-art cement manufacturing plant in Chhatak.  

Govt urged to convert Alangulam cement unit to dry process unit, India

Watchdog Okays Elazig Acquisition by Cementir, Turkey

Turkey’s antitrust agency, the Competition Board, has given the green light to the acquisition of Turkish cement company Elazig Cimento by Italian cement group Cementir for US$110m (EUR86m).    The recent acquisition is part of Cementir’s internationalisation strategy under which the company has already invested more than EUR1.1bn in acquisitions outside Italy.    Cementir is a unit of Italian construction company Caltagirone.

The cost of claims against Caribbean Cement Company Limited (CCCL) for damages due to defective cement is expected to exceed the initial provision of $160 million.
