The Ashanti Regional branch of Cement and Iron Rods Distributors and Retailers Association has increased the price of cement from 66,000 cedis to 70,000 cedis per bag with effect from Monday, September 18. Lafarge has acquired the control of the Minas Gerais state based Cimento Davi in a deal rumoured to be around R$100m, and part of its strategy to reinforce presence in the Southeast regional market. Cimpor invests in Spanish plants

Cimpor  plans to invest  EUR45m to increase the clinker production capacity of its Spanish plants of Cordoba and Niebla (Huelva). Cimpor acquired these plants, both based in the Andalusia region, back in 2002 from Lafarge Asland. Cement consumption in Spain up 8.4%

Cement consumption in Spain rose by 8.4 per cent YoY to over 37.3Mt in the first eight months of 2006, the Spanish cement makers association Oficemen said.    Cement output in Spain totalled some 36.1Mt, increasing by 7.6 pct. Spanish cement imports stood at 7.2Mt, up 0.7 per cent.
