Adnan Ignebekcili, head of the TCMB (Turkish cement manufacturers’ association), said that the cement sector was expected to grow by 6-8% next year however the picture was rather unclear for 2008. The Government is preparing to sell its shares in East African Portland Cement Company through the Nairobi Stock Exchange.    Without releasing a timetable, Trade and Industry minister Mukhisa Kituyi said the government had fulfilled its duty of delivering the cement manufacturer to profitability. China to cancel tax rebates for cement exports in three years

Kunda Tsement to launch new kiln line next spring, Estonia

The Estonian cement producer Kunda Nordic Tsement intends to launch a third kiln line next spring expected to increase clinker output by a third.     "If at present we are producing about 700,000t of clinker annually, then with the new kiln line going into operation the annual output should increase to 1.1Mt," director for administration Arvo Vainlo said.    According to Vainlo, the third kiln line will cost 200m kroons (EUR 12.8m). Cimentas completes acquisition of Elazig Cimento shares

Cimentas announced that following the approval of the competition board it completed the acquisition of 99.99% of Elazig Cimento, a cement concern, from the army pension fund Oyak for USD 110mn. Oyak group companies listed on the ISE, namely Bolu Cimento, Unye Cimento and Adana Cimento held 18%, 7% and 10% stakes in Elazig Cimento respectively. Cementir Holding and Cementir S.p.A own majority shares of Cimentas. 

BoI to consider opposition to Holcim rehabilitation plan

Italcement to invest EUR10m in expanding Bulgarian range

Italian cement giant Italcementi Group, which owns Devnya Cement in Devnya, northeastern Bulgaria, plans to invest EUR10m in Bulgaria in new products and in expanding its current range of dry mortars, the company said. The investment also envisages the construction of a production facility for dry mortars with an annual capacity of 100,000t.
