Guimaras sludge to fuel cement plant

The oil sludge recovered from the beaches of Guimaras Island, Philippines will be used as fuel to manufacture cement, Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz Jr. said Thursday. On Sunday, a barge with a capacity of 2,500 metric tons will arrive in Guimaras to collect the sludge and bring it to the Holcim Cement plant in Oriental Mindoro, Cruz, who heads the multi-agency Task Force Guimaras, said. Cimpor ahead despite Portuguese profit decline

New Iranian plant scheduled to open

According to “Tehran Times”, the largest ever gray cement plant of the nation is projected to come on stream in the second half of the current Iranian year (some time after September 22, 2006). The factory, based in Saveh, Markazi (Central) Arak, is 83 percent complete and enjoys a production capacity of 7500tpd. Financed by the Oil Stabilization Fund (OSF) and investors which are valued at $244.4m, the factory is being constructed on a land area as large as 400 hectares.

Harleyville set to grow

A US$291 million expansion and upgrade of the Lafarge North America cement plant near Harleyville represents the largest single capital investment in Dorchester County history, officials said Tuesday.
