Chinese machinery and equipment manufacturing companies have moved into the Brazilian cement sector after Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) Cimentos signed a deal with two companies for the construction of a clinker production unit in Arcos, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The third quarter of the current financial year 2005-06 ended on March 31, 2006. Maple Leaf Cement Factory Ltd (MLCFL) recorded production of grey cement at 1.083Mt. It also produced 252,000t of white cement during the nine months of current financial year (9M 2005-06). Irish cement maker, Readymix PLC said it has entered into an arms length commercial agreement with majority shareholder Cemex to use the latter’s proprietary business model and information technology systems.  Further, the agreement also grants Readymix the right to use the Cemex brand name and trademarks in Ireland. The Egyptian minister of Trade and Industry has announced a ceiling ex-works price for domestic bagged cement at EGP290/t (EUR40/t). This comes just after the anti-trust investigation launched in July following the recent surge in cement prices and the recent consolidation in the Egyptian cement industry – reports Arnaud Pinatel from analysts Exane BNP.
