PT Semen Gresik sold 1.43Mt of cement in July, down from 1.49Mt in June and 1.48Mt in the year ago month, data from the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) showed. In the first seven months, Semen Gresik cement sales fell 1.3 per cent year-on-year to 8.93Mt with a sharp fall in exports offsetting a mild gain in local sales. Colombia’s Argos to build $275m plant

Cementos Argos , Colombia’s top cement maker, will try to boost exports by building a US$275m cement plant in Caribbean port city Cartagena, the company said on Wednesday.  The plant will be able to make 1.68Mt of cement per year, starting in 2009, Argos said in a news release. Siam Cement may invest as much as US$200m to build or acquire a plant to make the building material in Indonesia as growth slows at home in Thailand. Australian cement and lime producer Adelaide Brighton Ltd remains positive about the future despite facing maintenance cost increases and mixed market conditions in the first half of the financial year.
