Vietnam: Cement consumption to decrease

The domestic cement demand in the third quarter of this year is predicted to decrease dramatically over the first and second quarter due to rainy reason, said the Ministry of Construction.     Cement consumption is estimated to decrease by 400 000t in August compared with that for previous months which was about 2.6-2.7Mt, the ministry said.

Ukraine Cement output up 8.8 per cent

Ukraine’s cement output rose by 8.8 per cent YoY to 7.223Mt in the first seven months of 2006, the State Statistics Committee said on August 16, 2006. In July alone, cement output grew by 10.7 per cent YoY and by 9.8 per cent month-on-month to 1.527Mt. The country’s cement production grew by 6.7 per cent YoY to 1.391Mt in June 2006. Eurocement acquires Uzbek cement producer

The Russian-based Eurocement Group has reportedly purchased a majority stake in Ahangarancement OJSC, the second largest cement producer of Uzbekistan, Russian business daily Vedomosti reported on 21 August.  Spokesmen for Eurocement presented information on the deal, which Ahangaran city administration confirmed. US concrete maker El Paso sued Mexico’s cement companies Cemex and Grupo Cementos Chihuahua (GCC) last week, alleging that both firms sell their products at prices lower than costs in El Paso, Texas. Ancap should invest at least US$10m in its cement plant at Minas and other US$2m - US$3m in the Paysandu unit, as part of an effort to modernise and to move them out of losses of around US$3m per annum. Basic Element to construct Serebryany cement plant

Basic Element LLC will construct Serebryany cement plant in the Mikhaylovsky district of the Ryazan region. The enterprise capacity will total 1.5Mt of cement per year. Investments in new equipment will stand at around $65m in 2006 and supplied by Chinese company Sinoma. The plant will use dry method of production, the administration of the Mikhaylovsky district told local news reporters.
