Construction of a US$210m cement plant began in Tinh Gia district of central Thanh Hoa province on July 4. The plant, invested by the Cong Thanh Cement Joint Stock Company, has a designed capacity of 2,500tpd of clinker in the first phase. Its capacity will be raised to 7,500tpd of clinker  (2.8Mta) in the second phase. This is the third cement plant to be built in the Thanh Hoa province. Lebanese company establishes factory in Suleimaniah

Suleimaniah’s General Director for the Promotion of Investments, Mahdi Sheran, has announced an agreement with Lebanese company GRD to construct a cement factory in Bazian. “The project will cost $170m and the factory will be built over 92 acres. Tokyo Cement Ltd, the island’s biggest cement maker, said that its group net profits had jumped 89 per cent for the 12 months to March, boosted by sustained demand in the construction industry. IFC signs loan for Yemen cement plant

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, has signed a US$35m loan to National Cement Company in Yemen. IFC’s loan will support the construction of a greenfield cement plant at Al Anad, 70km north of Aden. Eurocement to pay after settlement with antitrust

Russia’s largest cement producer Eurocement will pay a 267 million ruble fine (US$10m) to the federal government, in accordance with an out-of-court settlement to its long-running dispute with the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), Igor Artemyev, director of the service, told a news conference Tuesday.  The fine amounts to one per cent of Eurocement’s sales in 2005, Artemyev said.    Artemyev called late last year for the introduction of a system of collecting fines based on the sales of t...
