Permit to build plant in Saudi jazan

A-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper quoted Chairman of the Board of the Jazan Development Company Khalid bin Salih a-Shathari who announced in early June 2006 that the Company has received a permit from the Saudi Industry and Trade Ministry to build a cement plant with an annual production capacity of 1.5Mt and investments of SR 1 billion ($285 million). Professional and economic feasibility studies confirm that there is an economic need to build this factory in the Jazan area.  

Turkish cement demand grows Jan-May

National cement demand increased by 23 per cent in Jan-May, according to a report prepared by the branch association TCMB. Demand is estimated to have increased by a higher 25 per cent in June. Afghanistan’s Mines Ministry granted a licence to a private cement company that will invest US$140m in a new plant. Safi Brothers, which was the only bidder for the license, received the licence in presence of representatives from the ministries of finance, economy, industries and mines. Preliminary investigations carried out by the Bureau of Standards have cleared Caribbean Cement Company Limited of allegations that it was still releasing poor quality products to the market. Peruvian cement output stood at 2.77Mt for the first half of 2006, up 15.63 per cent year-on-year, according to data of the Peruvian cement producers’ association Asocem.
