Ash Grove to Spend to expand Foreman plant

Ash Grove Cement Co has announced that it will spend about US$190m to expand its portland cement manufacturing plant in Foreman. The project, to begin in 2007 and take about two years to finish, will almost completely rebuild the existing plant, the company said. Venezuelan authorities planning to invest US$220m in the construction of a cement plant with the help of Iran and have already paid US$48.5m to an Iranian firm as a first installment under the deal, local press reported. Eagle Materials announces strong profit growth

Construction began Thursday on Cambodia’s largest cement factory, a US$82m project aimed at tapping into a growing construction market in the impoverished Southeast Asian country, officials said. Orascom Construction Industries announced that it has completed the acquisition of an integrated cement plant in Eastern Turkey near the City of Van for a total consideration of US$54m. Domestic cement consumption grew 5 per cent to 31.51Mt in 2005 from 30.04Mt a year earlier, the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) said. Cement exports also rose 11.6 per cent to 3.29Mt from 2.95Mt previously while clinker exports dropped 26.9 per cent to 3.42Mt, the association said in a report. Cement consumption in Spain rose by 5.2 per cent year-on-year to an all-time high 50.4Mt in 2005, the Spanish cement makers association Oficemen said on January 24, 2006. Cement output in Spain stood at 49.3Mt, rising by 5.7 per cent. Spanish cement imports totalled 9.3Mt, up 13.6 per cent. Exports decreased by 14.9 per cent to 1.35Mt Cement consumption totalled 3.6Mt in December 2005, up 6.6 per cent year-on-year.

Lafarge Cement UK is moving its headquarters from Chilton in Oxfordshire to new purpose-built premises at the NEC, Birmingham.
