Cementos Portland to buy local Ceminter , Spain

Spanish cement maker Cementos Portland Valderribas SA, a unit of Spanish construction and services group Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas S. A., has reached an agreement to buy local sector company Ceminter, Cementos Portland reported to Spanish competition authority SDC.   SDC has to communicate its decision within one month. Cementos Bío Bío net profits up 0.45% in 1H05, Chile

Chilean cement company Cementos Bío Bío posted a consolidated net profit of COP13.1bn (US$24.1m) for 1H05, a 0.45% increase in relation to same-period last year, the company said. Gujarat Ambuja may invess in Rajasthan, India

Gujarat Ambuja has shown interest in investing Rs 1,000 crore in a cement plant in Marwar Mundwa region of Rajasthan. Cementos Argos merger now awaiting government approval, Colombia

The merger of the eight Grupo Argos cement companies in Colombia has now been approved by the shareholders of all the firms involved and the only remaining obstacle is the green light from the government, according to local press reports. Siam City Cement Plc (SCCC), the country’s second largest cement maker, concedes that rising energy costs could cut profit growth this year. Turkish cement producer Cimsa will put into operation a US$30m (EUR24.3m) cement plant in 2005. The plant, located in Kayseri, central Turkey, will have a capacity of 1800tpd utilising low fuel and electricity costs.  Cimsa targets TRL280m (US$212.4m) in turnover, including exports of US$60m, for 2005. Inflationary pressures from higher energy prices and a weakening rupiah, in addition to a delay in major infrastructure projects, may result in this year’s growth in domestic cement demand being far below last year’s eight per cent, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa said.
