Thai cement consumption growth decelerated in 2H05 and also decelerated to eight per cent YoY in 2Q05 from 18% in 1Q05. Cement consumption grew by 13% YoY in 1H05. Govt, Iran to jointly undertake US$200m cement plant

Holcim Romania said on Wednesday it spent EUR 1.5m ($1.8 m) to open its ninth environmentally friendly concrete plant.The plant employs technology to cut the amount of dust and noise it produces. It plans to open two more of the plants this year. It has nine others already in operation in Romania. 

Birla July cement shipments fall 3.6%, India

Aditya Birla group, India’s top cement producer, said July cement shipments fell 3.6 per cent from a year ago to 2.01Mt. The Birla group, comprising flagship Grasim Industries Ltd. and UltraTech Cement Company Ltd., produced 2.01Mt of cement in July, down 4.8 per cent from a year ago, a company official said. 

Gujarat Ambuja July sales down 8% YoY, India

Cement sales of Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd. stood at 0.9Mt in July as against 1.028Mt in the same month last year, registering a decline of eight per cent. Cement production during the month was 0.9Mt compared to 1.032Mt in July 2004, reflecting a drop of 8.04 per cent. Cement shipments for Ambuja Cement Eastern Ltd grew by 7.82 per cent to 0.12Mt from 0.115Mt in the same month last year.
