Oman Cement H1 net up significantly

Majority state-owned Oman Cement Company said on Sunday net profit grew 25 per cent to 8.2 million rials (US$21.30m) for the first half of 2005, helped by rising cement prices.  Oman’s leading cement producer said its sales climbed to 925,078t from 803,204t, and revenues rose 38 per cent to 22.12 million rials. The Podilskyi Tsement company, one of Ukraine’s three biggest producers of cement (Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi region), intends to fully go over to the use of coal instead of gas fuel before the year of 2008. Texas Industries, Inc. today announced the completion of the separation of its steel operations from TXI through a pro-rata tax-free dividend of all the common stock of Chaparral Steel Company to TXI shareholders. Common shares of Chaparral Steel Company will trade on the NASDAQ stock exchange. TXI is the largest producer of cement in Texas and a major cement producer in California. TXI is also a major supplier of construction aggregates, ready-mix concrete and concrete products.

Belgian firm to sue cement makers in Germany

A Belgian firm specialising in damages lawsuits plans to seek about Euro 140m compensation from cement makers Lafarge , Dyckerhoff and Readymix over alleged price-fixing. Indonesia’s cement maker PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa said Friday it swung to a first half net profit due to an increase in revenue and a decline in foreign exchange losses.  It booked IDR307.62 billion in net profit, compared to IDR117.30 billion in losses a year earlier.  Its revenue jumped 25 per cent to IDR2.54 trillion. Three cement makers, Lafarge, Dyckerhoff and Readymix face damage claims by 28 corporate customers amounting to a total of Euro 140m for alleged price fixing, Financial Times Deutschland reports in an advance copy of Friday’s edition. The lawyers’ office, Oppenlaender, will file the charge with a German state court based in Duesseldorf next week, the paper says.
