Italy Italsigma Plant Starts Working

The plant of Italian concrete admixtures producer Italsigma has started working at full capacity, the company said. Italsigma is a joint venture between Italian concrete admixtures supplier Axim Italcementi Group, part of the cement producer and distributor Italcementi SpA, and local chemical company 3V Sigma.   The plant will produce 15,000t naphthalene sulphonate yearly. The facility is located in Marghera, the northern province of Venice.

CSN steps into cement market

The proposed new business of Brazilian entrepreneur Benjamin Steinbruch, majority shareholder and chairman of steelmaker CSN (Companhia Siderurgica Nacional) is reportedly moving ahead. In the first half of 2005, Siberian Cement Holdings produced 1.4Mt of cement, the company’s President Andrey Muraviev said. New Laos cement factory nears completion

A project to build a cement factory with the capacity to produce 2500tpd is nearing completion.   Work on the factory, located at Ban Nalaokham in the Mahasay district of Khammouane province, Laos, commenced in December 2004 and contractors expect to have completed the project later this year.  It is expected that the factory will be ready to be officially opened and commence work by November this year.     Mr Khamphone Phimasone, the project’s national coordinator said, in a recent intervie...

Cement production in Poland fell to 4.9Mt in the first half of 2005, from 5.3Mt in the first half of 2004, the country’s association of cement producers SPC said. The country’s clinker production dropped 8.0 per cent year-on-year to 3.6Mt from January to June 2005, SPC added. The sales of cement slided 11 per cent year-on-year, while clinker sales grew 21.6 per cent year-on-year in the first six months of 2005. Cemex net gains after RMC buyout

Cemex posted a better-than-expected 197 per cent increase in quarterly net profit following its $5.8bn takeover of Britain’s ready-mix concrete producer RMC. South African cement sales boom

Cement sales for the first half of 2005 rose by 10.3 per cent year-on-year (y/y) to 5,496,523t, the Cement and Concrete Institute (CNCI) reported. The increase in June was 6.9 per cent y/y to 1,071,682t after May’s 8.1 per cent y/y rise to 1,016,043t after April’s large 28 per cent surge to 971,604t. The Chief Minister of Jharkhand today inaugurated the modernization and expansion project of ACC’s Chaibasa Cement Works. The project comprises replacement of the earlier plant which was based on the old wet process technology with a new state-of-the-art clinkering unit of 1.2Mta together with a captive power plant of 15MW. Indonesia’s cement consumption, an indicator of economic activity, rose 6.7 per cent by volume in June from a year earlier, the country’s largest cement maker said on Thursday.   State-controlled PT Semen Gresik said Southeast Asia’s largest economy used 2.76Mt of the building material last month, up from 2.59Mt a year before.     Domestic sales of Semen Gresik alone rose 7.4 per cent to 1.23Mt. The Moroccan Minister of Industry, Trade and Economic Restructuring, Salah Eddine Mezouar, officially inaugurated on July 18, 2005 the capacity extension works at the grinding unit of cement company Holcim Maroc S.A. in Nador, northwestern Morocco.  The extension project consists in setting up an additional grinding facility with a capacity of 60tph.
