Cement Production Up By 14.7%

In April, Ukraine cement production rose by 14.7 per cent compared with April 2004, to 1,121,000t.  Additionally, in April, cement production rose by 64 per cent compared with March.   In 2004, cement production rose by 19.3 per cent or 1,719,000t compared with 2003, to 10,635,000t. More than 15 factories produce cement in Ukraine, and their total annual capacity is more than 20Mt.

Cement continues to be in short supply in Qatar hitting the construction industry. Nasser Al Mir, a member of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), told Al Sharq yesterday that he had a word with the general manager of Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC), Mohamed Al Sulaiti, and he said that 12 shiploads of cement were expected to arrive here soon to take care of the shortage. The Saudi Ministry of Commerce has been forced to intervene in the cement market to bring the prices down. Reaction to the move by the Ministry of Commerce was mixed. Distributors were apparently comfortable that the pricing strategy helped the market rather than harmed it. Cement production clocked a 7.24 per cent rise in April at 11.41Mt as against 10.49Mt in the year ago month. Dispatches grew by 9.25 per cent to 11.46Mt from 10.49Mt during the monthly review period, cement manufacturers association said in its latest updates. Peru’s overall cement sales in April rose 0.7 per cent to 405,535t from the 402,624t sold in April 2004, as the economy continued to expand, the National Association of Cement Producers, or Asocem, said Monday.  In the first four months of the year, cement sales totaled 1,538,415t, a 4.9 per cent increase from the same period the year earlier. Pivdentsement to upgrade second line

The Pivdentsement company (Olshanske, Mykolaiv region), a large Ukranian cement producer, has decided to upgrade the second clinker kiln by 2006. A spokesman said that modernisation of the kiln will allow its production to double and potentially reach 1.2Mt annually.
