China’s output of cement in April

China produced 80,559,900t of cement in April 2004. The output in January-April reached 260,704,200t, up 21.3 percent year on year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

Cement consumption drops 10 per cent

Cement consumption in Brazil dropped 10 per cent in April to 2.67Mt compared to the ,month before, according to statistics released by the country’s national cement industry union SNIC. Last month’s cement consumption was up 0.68 per cent from April 2003. The volume of cement produced in April dropped 6.75 per cent to 2.63Mt from the month before but rose 1.31 per cent compared to April 2003, the SNIC said.

Cement prices have firmed up in the southern and western regions of India even as the monsoons are fast approaching. Yelena Baturina, owner of Inteco corporation and wife of the Moscow Mayor, keeps broadening her business empire. Inteco recently bought a 100 per cent stake in Pikalovsky Cement, the largest cement producer in the Northwestern Region, from Metallurg holding managed by Sevzapprom. Boral Ltd said Friday it has withdrawn an undertaking to Australia’s competition watchdog that the company won’t proceed with a A$$862 million takeover bid for rival Adelaide Brighton Ltd. DTI shortens testing period, Philippines

Imported cement will now be able to reach the markets faster as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has ordered the shortening of the product testing period to only seven days from 28 days.
