Turkish Askale Cimento to export US$7.5m cement to Iran

Turkish cement producer Askale Cimento Fabrikasi in Erzurum, eastern Turkey, has signed an agreement to export cement for US$7.5m to Iran. Under the agreement, the company has already shipped 5000t of cement to Iran and the figure will reach 150,000t in 2004. It is the first export deal of Askale Cimento. Duna-Drava planning HUF5bn development

Cement producer Duna-Drava Cement Kft (DDC) is planning developments at its factory in Beremend (southern Hungary) that could total as much as HUF5bn, the company said. Chilean cement company Empresas Melón will decide in September whether to build a new cement plant in Region VIII or a limestone plant in Region III, according to Melón finance director Joao Pereira, report local press. Colombia’s leading cement producer, Grupo Argos, is to withdraw from coal mining as part of a strategic realignment of its core business, La República reported. Austrian cement maker Lasselsberger said today it might scrap a plan to build a Kc2.5bn Czech plant unless all Czech cement works enjoy equal conditions. Lafarge, plans to invest US$40m in southwestern China’s Chongqing Municipality, as part of its efforts to increase investment in the country’s underdeveloped west, which is rich in natural resources. CRH not to raise Mashav stake

Israeli holding company Clal Industries and Investments Ltd said on Sunday Ireland’s CRH would not buy an additional 25 per cent stake in its subsidiary Mashav after talks ended. CRH already owns 25 per cent of Mashav and had an option to buy another 25 per cent. In December Clal, which owns 75 per cent of Mashav,  said it was in talks with CRH to sell 25 per cent. Mashav’s holdings include Nesher, Israel’s cement monopoly.

Cementos Lemona net attributable profit down 41 per cent

Spanish cement producer Cementos Lemona posted a net attributable profit of EUR2.2m in the first quarter of 2004, a 41 per cent YoY decrease, the company reported to Spain’s stock market regulator CNMV The turnover decreased 9.4 per cent to EUR19.4m (US$22.9m). Cement sales totalled 157,498t, down 14.2 per cent. The decrease was mainly due to the unfavourable weather conditions, which delayed the construction works at production capacities of Cementos Lemona, the company said.
