The price of cement in UAE has hit a new high of Dh260 per tonne as against Dh190 per tonne same time last year. The rise in cement prices has been attributed to growing demand from the construction sector. Prices had touched a peak of Dh230 per tonne in February this year. T. The Brazilian cement industry  association (Sindicato Nacional da Industria do Cimento) has announced the consumption of cement in the Brazilian market was 8.04Mt in the Q1 2004 (Jan-March) some 2.15 per cent down the registered in same period in 2003. JSC Angarskcement plans to produce 735,000t of cement in 2004, up 17 per cent y-o-y, Teleinform said referring to General Manager Vladimir Ilyushin. In 2003, some 630,000t was produced. Over the last three years output has been expanding 17-20 per cent. In 2003 10,000t was also exported, in 2004 15,000t are expected to be sold.

Indonesia’s cement consumption rises

Cement consumption in Indonesia jumped 20 per cent to 2.04Nt in February from 1.7Mt in the same month in 2003.  Exports however fell 39.5 per cent to 357,915t, according to data released by the Indonesian Cement Association. Sales including exports rose to 2.4Mt in February 2004 from 2.29Mt in the same period last year.  In the first two months of this year sales including exports totaled 5.37Mt, up slightly from 5.16Mt in the same period in 2003.
