Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd (GACL) has posted a 106 per cent rise in net profit for the third quarter ended 31 March 2004 at Rs 145.23 crore as against Rs 70.63 crore posted in third quarter of the previous fiscal. Saudi Cement Co reported that first-quarter net profit increase SR 5m (US$1.33m) to reach SR 95m (US$25.33m) from the same period a year earlier. The company, reported a 35.2 per cent increase in domestic sales to 987,000t of cement from 730,000t in 2003. Fortune Cement Corp. posted a consolidated net income of P158m in 2003, a turnaround from net losses of P3.54bn in 2002 and P1.44bn in 2001. Holcim Romania has registered a 37 percent YoY increase in turnover for the first quarter of 2004. The company posted a revenue of EUR11m (US$13.1m) for the first three months of 2004, compared to EUR8m in the same period last year, local daily Ziarul Financiar quoted Holcim Romania CEO Kurt Habersatter as saying.
