New bulk cement terminal for Ciego de Ávila

A distribution terminal for bulk cement is currently being constructed in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. The terminal will help supply the area with 8000tpm of cement, needed for the social and economic development of Ávila. The new distribution point is located close to the railroad. Senegal cement production up 6% in 1Q18

Cement production in Senegal increased by 97,500t in the first quarter of 2018. Sococim and Ciments du Sahel produced 1.832Mt of cement, up 5.6 per cent when compared with the 1.734Mt manufactured in 1Q17. The figures do not include output at Dangote Sénégal’s 1.5Mta plant in Pout. Output in 1Q18 was driven by higher domestic sales, which advanced by 50.6 per cent to 1.279Mt from 0.848Mt in 1Q17. Exports fell 37.1 per cent to 564,900t from 898,200t in the year-ago period.

India's Cement Manufacturers' Association (CMA) has argued that cement should be brought under the lowest Goods and Services Tax (GST) slab. Deep Kamara, Dangote Cement’s country manager in Ethiopia, was killed by gunmen on Wednesday while returning to Addis Ababa from the facility which he managed in the country, according to Reuters. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto rico in February contracted by 3.6 per cent YoY to 5.8Mt, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Peru’s cement market expanded by 13.5 per cent YoY in April 2018 as cement deliveries reached 0.817Mt, according to the latest data from the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement demand in Spain saw its growth slow to 7.6 per cent in March 2018, when compared with the previous month, according Oficemen’s Cement Demand Index (IDC). LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Ltd has completed the replacement of its 17km-long conveyor belt in an effort to reduce noise emissions. The belt was originally installed in 2004 and connects its limestone mine in India to its plant in Surma, Bangladesh.
