KFTC fines 26 manufacturers for cartelisation

The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has announced that it levied KRW15.37bn (US$14.64m) of fines on 26 cement manufacturers for cartelisation activities, according to Korea JoongAng Daily. The KFTC stated that the manufacturers had colluded to set the prices of ready-mix concrete provided to smaller construction firms between 2009-16. Cement prices rise in northern Pakistan

Cement prices in Pakistan, after registering a drop of almost 10 per cent over the last nine months, have started to increase in the northern region. Prices rose by PKR20 (US$0.17) on average, while prices have remained stable in the south. In Lahore the multiple brands of cement bags available have increased from an average of PKR505/50kg bag to PKR525.

Decision to fine six Polish cement companies upheld

After nine years, the decision of the Polish Office for Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) to fine six manufacturers for alleged collusion has been supported by a court of appeal. The total fine, PLN411m (US$121.33m), has been reduced to PLN280m following the appeal, according to PNB. Landed petcoke prices could increase by 6% in India

In India the landed cost of petcoke could increase by 5.6 per cent as a result of the import duty hike, reports Nirmal Bang Institutional Equities. Uganda's Government, through the Ministry of Trade and Cooperatives, has vowed to allow cheap imported cement into the country if local cement manufacturers do not lower prices.
