ThaiGroup JSC signs South Africa export supply agreement

ThaiGroup JSC, formerly known as Xuan Thanh Group JSC, has signed deal with the UK-based Ores & Minerals UK Ltd to export cement to South Africa, local media said. Under the contract worth US$1.2bn signed on 2 March 2016, the Vietnamese company will export a total volume of 20Mt of cement to South Africa within 10 years, said Nguyen Xuan Thuy, general director of ThaiGroup JSC. Colombia January cement consumption up 3%

In January 2016 Colombia’s cement market expanded by three per cent to 0.956Mt from 0.928Mt in the same month a year earlier, according to latest data from country’s statistics office, DANE. Growth was particularly strong in Córdoba (+44.1 per cent), Risaralda (+42 per cent), Norte de Santander (+33.5 per cent) and Valle del Cauca (+10.7 per cent). Cement production increased 7.3 per cent YoY to 0.966Mt in January, from 0.9Mt in January 2015.

Dominican Republic: market expands, prices fall

National cement production in the Dominican Republic reached 5.18Mt, an increase of 3.2 per cent YoY, according to official statistics. This represents 75 per cent of the country’s installed production capacity of 6.91Mt. Meanwhile, the domestic market expanded by 6.2 per cent when compared with 2014. Dem Rep Congo: cement price falls 15% in Kinshasa

The price of a bag of grey cement in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, has fallen from CDF12,500 (US$13.54) at the start of the year to CDF10,500 at the end of February, representing a fall of 15 per cent. The decrease in price has been attributed to the supply of Chinese cement imports.

Vietnam output rises 15.8% in first two months

Vietnam produced 10.8Mt of cement in the first two months of this year, rising 15.8 per cent from a year earlier, the government-run General Statistics Office said. In February the country’s cement output rose 26.6 per cent YoY to 4.8Mt. The Ministry of Construction forecasts that Vietnam’s sales of cement and clinker will rise 4-7 per cent YoY to between 75-77Mt in 2016.

Approval granted for new Quang Nam plant, Vietnam

ThaiGroup JSC has received approval from the Peoples’ Committee of Quang Nam province in Vietnam's central region to develop the second cement plant in the area. The government of Israel has notified Nesher Cement Enterprises Ltd that it must cut prices due to lower-priced inputs, local press have reported. The foundation stone for the Emami Cement's new grinding plant was laid by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Panagarh, West Bengal, on Saturday.
