PCA forecast sees continued growth

During the PCA Board of Directors meeting last week, PCA Chief Economist and Group Vice President, Ed Sullivan, reported that 2015 cement consumption in the United States will continue to grow, but at a slower pace than predicted at the beginning of the year.

On 15 November 2015, China Resources Cement (Lianjiang) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the China Resources Cement, commenced operation of its first cement grinding line with a production capacity of 1Mta in Lianjiang City, Guangdong province. The new production line will strengthen the company’s competitive edge in the south-western part of Guangdong, China Resources Cement said in a statement.

Cement demand in Spain fell by 2.4 per cent in October 2015 to 1.025Mtt, or 23,716 below the October 2014 level. In the first 10 months of 2015, domestic cement consumption increased 4.3 per cent YoY to 9.56Mt. The Peruvian cement market continues to show signs of recovery as market contraction is decelerating in October, according to Asocem, Peru’s cement producers’ association. Domestic sales fell 0.5 per cent YoY to 923,000t from 928,000t in October 2015 while the decrease in October 2014 was one per cent. Exports fell from 30,000t to 26,000t. Portland and blended cement shipments in the US and Puerto Rico during September 2015 totalled 9.011Mt, according to preliminary data from the US Geological Survey. Of the total, domestic dispatches accounted for 8.027Mt and imports were 984,080t. Over the first nine months of 2015, shipments totalled 68.183Mt, comprising 61.25Mt of domestic shipments and 6.933Mt of imports.
