JSW Group to invest in port capabilities and cement capacity

JSW Group plans to invest INR40bn (US$610m) to boost its port and cement capacity in the next two years. JSW Infrastructure Ltd, plans to almost double its ability to handle cargo at its ports to 62Mt, with a target to further increase it to 200Mt by 2025, Seshagiri Rao, group chief financial officer, said in an interview. The fuel supply contracts of cement companies with Coal India will not be discontinued for auction, in contrast to earlier government announcements that all coal supply agreements between Coal India and non-power firms would end in June 2016. Dutch shipyard Ferus Smit has christened and launched the Greenland, the first LNG-powered cement carrier. Greenland is a dedicated cement carrier built for the joint venture JT cement, in which Erik Thun AB cooperates with Norway’s KG Jebsen Cement (KGJ). The vessel will be the first dry cargo vessel ever with an LNG-fuelled propulsion system, in which a pressurised LNG tank is incorporated inside the hull. Hope Construction Materials and DB Schenker Rail UK have have signed a five-year partnership contract for transport services. The agreement covers the transport of aggregates from the quarry at Dowlow near Buxton in the UK to 10 locations across Britain. Pakistan cement dispatches in the first four months of FY16 increased by 3.79 per cent YoY to 11.398Mt, according to the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturer’s Association (APCMA). Domestic sales during the period climbed to 9.37Mt, representing a YoY increase of 14.38 per cent – the fastest growth in the last eight years, the industry body noted. Argentina’s monthly cement consumption 2.5% ahead

The Argentina cement market saw increased sales in October 2015, up 2.5 per cent YoY from 1,100,852t to 1,127,869t, according to AFCP, the country's cement association. Export sales, however, fell by 56 per cent from 14,344t to 6342t over the same period. In the year to date, dispatches rose 8.4 per cent to 10,175,570t from 9,383,267t posted in January-October 2014. Exports experienced a 42 per cent fall from 137,249t to 79,602t.

Philippine third-quarter cement sales surge

Philippine cement sales surged 18.6 per cent in the third quarter from a year ago, according to the latest data from the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP). Sales volumes during the July-September quarter reached 6.37Mt, up from 5.37Mt a year earlier on the back of strong construction activities by the private and public sectors. Vietnam sold 58.66Mt of cement and clinker in the first 10 months of this year, rising one per cent from a year earlier and fulfilling 80 per cent of the whole-year target, the Building Material Department under the Ministry of Construction said.
