Argentinian cement deliveries up 8.3% YoY in May

In May 2015 Argentina’s cement plants shipped 1,001,540t of cement (including exports), representing a five per cent drop compared to last April, but up 7.8 per cent YoY, according to the Argentinian cement producers' association, AFCP. The domestic market expanded by 8.3 per cent YoY as 996,149t were delivered within the country’s borders. When compared with the previous month, a 4.7 per cent fall was noted.

Indian output down 2.4% in April

The output of eight core industries in India contracted for the second consecutive month in April, on poor performances by the cement, electricity, natural gas refinery products and fertiliser sectors. In April 2015, output by the eight industries fell by 0.4 per cent. Semapa, the Portuguese holding company that controls Secil, said turnover in its Cement and Derivatives Business unit for the first quarter of 2015 increased by 2.4 per cent YoY to EUR99.9m. The Medcem cement works, owned by Turkey-based Eren Holdings, is scheduled to come online in June, entering a market already supplied by Lafarge, Ciments d’Afrique and Dangote. EPC contract signed for new Limak cement works, Turkey

China's Sinoma International Engineering Co signed a contract on Friday with Turkey's Limak Holding to build a US$155m cement factory in the capital Ankara. The factory will have a capacity to produce 5000ptd of cement, Limak officials said during a signing ceremony for the equipment, procurement and construction (EPC) contract. Construction is expected to take 20 months and Sinoma expects to complete it in the first quarter of 2017.

Masvingo Rural District Council has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Xhing Xhong Cement Co of China for the establishment of a new cement plant in Zimbabwe. “I can confirm that we’ve agreed with an investor who wants to establish a cement plant in Chief Charumbira’s area. Votorantim Cimentos is to triple the capacity of Sivas cement plant in Turkey involving an investment of EUR140m, representing the largest spend for the company outside the Americas under its recently announced 2015-2018 outlay. Indonesia's largest cement maker, PT Semen Indonesia Tbk , plans to build a new plant in Aceh worth IDR4.5trn (US$340.2m), Investor Daily reported, quoting Corporate Secretary Agung Wiharto.
