Vietnam Jan-April output climbs 5.3% YoY

Vietnam produced 19.9Mt of cement in the first four months of this year, up 5.3 per cent from a year ago, including 5.9Mt in April, the government-run General Statistics Office said. Cemex Philippines has inaugurated a new PHP3bn (US$67.3m) cement mill at its Apo Cement plant in Naga City, Cebu, as part of its comprehensive expansion plan in the country. Algeria: GICA to increase capacity to 18.5Mta by end-2017

State-owned Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algérie (GICA) will invest DZD154bn (US$1.6bn) to increase its production by from 11.5Mta currently up to 18.5Mta by the end of 2017. The Mineral Products Association (MPA) reports that sales volumes of aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt improved again in the first quarter of 2015. Philippine cement sales grew 9.6 per cent in the first quarter from a year ago to 5.7Mt, latest statistics from the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) show. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in February 2015 were about 4.8Mt, up by about two per cent from the level in February 2014, latest data from the US Geological Survey shows. Cement production in the Dominican Republic increased 6-7 per cent in the first quarter of 2015 after a full-year 2014 rise of 13.4 per cent, according to the country’s cement association, Adocem.
