Bangladesh’s cement industry is expanding with clinker imports rising for the last five fiscal years. Cementis expansion to lead to lower cement price and self-sufficiency

The expansion of the Cementis cement plant in Ibity, near Antsirabe in Madagascar, is expected to lead to a significant drop in cement prices. Within three years, the price of a 50kg bag is forecast to fall to MGA14,000 (US$3.17), according to the country’s President, Andry Rajoelina. The project will increase the production at the cement plant to 1Mt from its current 180,000tpa, enabling the country to achieve cement self-sufficiency.

Chile's cement demand contracts 15% in October

Cement demand in Chile has dropped by 15 per cent to 348,665t in October 2022, according to the Chilean Chamber of Construction (CChC). In October 2021 cement demand reached 410,424t. In the January-October period, demand fell by 12 per cent YoY to 3,190,518t from 3,624,776t in the 10M21.

Cement dispatches in Peru declined by two per cent in November 2022 to 1.167Mt from 1.185Mt in November 2021, reports domestic cement association, Asocem. Cement consumption in Spain has increased 1.8 per cent YoY in November to 1,343,393t, reports Oficemen, the country’s cement association. It is the first increase after six months of contraction. Cement deliveries by members of Morocco’s cement association, APC, ( Asment Temara , Ciments de l’Atlas , Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc ) were down 9.4 per cent YoY to 1,112,013t in November 2022, according to the cement association. In the January-November 2022 period dispatches were down by 9.2 per cent to 11.544Mt when compared with the 12.719Mt dispatched in the 11M21.
