Pakistan export volumes fall but earnings rise

Export volumes from Pakistan's cement industry in the first four months (July-October 2022) of FY22-23 fell but export prices rose, leading to higher export earnings, according to the country's Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). Rising imports from Belarus may hit cement production in Russia, according to the real estate office of the RIA Novosti agency. Cement imports from Belarus have increased by 61 per cent YoY in September-October 2022 to 434,000t. Cement consumption in Chile declined by 12.5 per cent YoY to 292,714t in September 2022 from 334,603t in the year-ago period, according to the CChC, the Chilean construction chamber. In the January-September 2022, demand contracted by 11.6 per cent to 2,841,853t from 3,214,352t in the 9M21.

The Iranian cement market expanded 0.3 per cent to 5.22Mt in October 2022 from 5.05Mt in October 2021, according to the Iranian cement association. Domestic cement production in October 2022 reached 5.66Mt, up 3.6 per cent from 5.46Mt in October 2021. Clinker production edged up from 7.02Mt in October 2021 to 7.09Mt on year later. Demand for aggregates, asphalt and ready-mixed concrete has declined for the second quarter in a row in the 3Q22, according to the UK-based Mineral Products Association (MPA). Cement consumption in Argentina has decreased by 0.8 per cent YoY and 6.7 per cent MoM to 1,131,593t in October 2022 from 1,140,962t in October 2021, according to the Argentine Portland cement association, AFCP. Cement deliveries by APC members in Morocco declined by 16.4 per cent YoY to 1,048,975t in October 2022 from 1,254,798t in October 2021, according to the Moroccan cement association, APC. The association’s members include Asment Temara, Ciments du Maroc and LafargeHolcim Maroc. In the first 10 months of 2022, deliveries were down 9.2 per cent YoY to 10.432Mt from 11.491Mt in the 10M21.
