Mbeya Cement inaugurates new bag filter, Tanzania

Lafarge Mbeya Cement, part of the Lafarge group, has inaugurated a new bag filter to reduce stack emissions at its plant at Songwe, Tanzania. The initiative forms part of the company's efforts to improve its overall production process which will also see an increase in capacity. Chinese sign US$733m cement deals in Nigeria and Myanmar

Sinoma and CITIC Heavy Industries have agreed deals worth US$733m to construct cement plants in Nigeria and Myanmar, respectively. Sinoma International Engineering Co Ltd, part of China National Materials Co Ltd, signed a US$536m contract with Nigeria’s Dangote Cement Plc, according to a Reuters report. Zambezi Portland Cement (ZPC) chief financial officer, Peter Kang’ombe, said that the company had increased production from 36,000tpm to 39,000tpm in the last four months of 2013. Bangladesh approves Aramit’s rights offer

Bangladesh's securities regulator Tuesday approved the rights offer of Aramit Cement to boost the company's capital base, according to local press reports. The cement manufacturer will offer one rights share against one existing shae, at an offer price of BDT15 each, including BDT5 as premium. The company will issue BDT1.69 crore rights shares to its existing shareholders to raise the fund. AAA Consultant and Financial Advisers will manage the rights share issue.

Saudi cement sales fell 17 per cent in November 2013 to 3.65Mt compared to 4.37Mt in the same period in 2012. All companies reported a decline in sales with the exception of Northern Province Cement, Arabian Cement and Madinah Cement which saw increases of 58, 24 and 20 per cent, respectively, the report, based on data released by Yamamah Cement Company (YCC), said.
