Colombian market expands 14% in October

Colombia’s cement production jumped 18.4 per cent YoY to 1.4Mt in October while deliveries increased by 13.9 per cent to 1.032Mt, according to the country’s national statistics office, DANE. Norte de Santander noted the biggest rise in deliveries with 52.2 per cent, followed by Caldas (31.5 per cent), Bolivar (27.3 per cent), Ontario (27 per cent) and Antioquia (17.7 per cent). Vietnam has reported a double-digit rise in sales over the first 11 months of the year, with exports up 63 per cent YoY. A total of 55.2Mt of cement was sold over Jan-Nov 2013, up 13 per cent from a year earlier, Le Van Toi, director of the Building Material Department, said. Ethiopia’s biggest private investor, Mohammed al-Amoudi, plans to construct two more cement factories in the country, according to reports by Bloomberg. Lafarge Canada plans to layoff 31 of about 50 unionised workers at its Brookfield plant in Nova Scotia during December as part of a cost-cutting measure. Loma Negra has Loma Negra approved the construction of a new cement plant in San Juan, according to the Argentine cement producer’s manager, Osvaldo Schütz.
