UK cement sales seen up 3% in 2011, declines ahead

Latest cement data from the Mineral Products Cement Association (MPA) shows that cement sales for the January – November 2011 period were 7.92Mt, up 5.5 per cent on the 7.51Mt recorded in the same period of 2010. Thatta Cement Company said on Friday that its proposal to set up a grinding and packing plant in southern Sri Lanka was approved by the Sri Lanka Port Authority (SLPA) on 6 January 2012. Capacity utilisation of the Pakistan cement sector reached its lowest level for a decade (at 69.67 per cent) in the first two quarters of 2011-12 which ended on 31 December 2011. Cement production at Algerian cement producer Chlef Entreprise publique des ciments et dérivés  (ECDE) in 2011 is below expectations due to some technical problems among other issues, a company source said yesterday. Production amounted to 2.11Mt against a target of 2.4Mt, the source said. Hail Cement Co said that it had signed a housing contract with the JV of Teberak Trading and Contracting Company and Mo B Co for Civil Construction. The contract value is SAR117.8m (US$314.6m). The Venezuelan government announced the budget for the state enterprises, allocating VEB2.4bn (US$558.1m) to cement companies Fabrica Nacional de Cementos (FNC) and Industria Venezolana de Cementos (Invecem). Swiss cement volumes to decline in 2012

Cement deliveries by Swiss cement producers increased 2.9 per cent in 2011 compared to the year before. This increase is attributed exclusively to the first half.
