Anhui Conch acquisition, China

Anhui Conch Cement plans to acquire Anhui Conch Venture Capital’s no 4 and 5 energy saving equipment factories, and relevant land use rights, for a total of CNY22m, reports Shanghai Securities News, citing a company filing. According to the filing, the cement maker plans to set up an equipment storage centre, which will boost production and lower procurement costs. The factories purchased will be mainly used for storage, said the firm.

Germany: VDZ and BDZ combine operations

The German Cement Works Association (VDZ) and the Federal Association of German Cement Industry (BDZ) are combining operations and merging into the German Cement Works Association. The newly-formed body will represent 23 domestic companies and  about 95 per cent of the German industry with a turnover of approximately EUR2.1bn. South Korea exported 4.49Mt of cement in 2011, up a marked 62 per cent from 2.7Mt as producers turn to exports as a property slump hurts domestic demand. Pikalevskiy Cement production rises, Russia

Russia-based producer Pikalevskiy Cement reported a rise in cement production of three per cent in 2011 to 1.78Mt, SKRIN newswire reports. The company, which operates in the Leningrad region and is part of the Eurocement Group, said clinker production amounted to 1.55Mt, up 12.2 per cent on 2010 figures. Shipments for last year reached 1.78Mt, a YoY increase of 3.8 per cent.

Peruvian 2011 shipments rise marginally

Shipments of cement in the Peruvian market totaled 8.9Mt between January and December 2011, 2.42 per cent more than that recorded in 2010, when (8.98Mt), reported the Association of Cement Producers (Asocem). The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has conducted a search and inspection of the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) premises as well as Kohat Cement offices in Lahore to seize documents which could confirm collusive activities in an alleged cement cartel. Can Tho Mineral and Cement signs export deal

A new export deal has been signed by Vietnamese cement producer, Can Tho Mineral and Cement JSC and a Chinese partner for 24,000t to be delivered to Cambodia. Can Tho’s Chairman and CEO, Thai Minh Thuyet was quoted by Vietnam press as saying that the contract will help the company deal with a downturn in the domestic market. The first shipment of 6000t will be delivered by the end of January.

Iran to launch Venezuelan cement factory in March

Iranian-built cement factory in Venezuela "Cerro Azul" is to be launched in March 2012, according to local press reports. Iranian Ehdas Sanat Company signed a contract with Venezuelan government in 2005 for building the cement firm in the country costing US$198m.
