Ultratech to add 9.5Mta capacity in Madhya Pradesh22 April 2011, Published under Cement NewsLeading Indian cement producer, Ultratech Cement Ltd, will set up three cement plants with a total capacity of 9.5Mta and amounting to an investment of INR6000 crore. The plants, which will be set up at Dhar and Satna, Madhya Pradesh, will create employment for 2200 people. Ultratech Cement has an annual capacity of 52Mta, with production facilities operating in India, the UAE, Bahrain and Bangladesh. |

Dyckerhoff plans new Russian plant22 April 2011, Published under Cement NewsDyckerhoff, part of the Buzzi Unicem Group, plans to build a EUR450m cement plant at Akbulak in the Orenburg province in the Volga Federal District of Russia. The new plant, which was reportedly put on hold due to the crisis, will have a 2Mta capacity and is due to commence production in 2014. |
US cement shipments up 7.4% in February22 April 2011, Published under Cement NewsPreliminary estimates released by the US Geological Survey indicate that US cement shipments in February 2011 reached 3.648Mt, 7.4% higher than in February 2010, though still some 38% below the 5-year average. After 45 months of continual decline between May 2006 and February 2010, shipments have now increased in 11 of the last 12 months. |

Indian cement sales growth falls to long-term low21 April 2011, Published under Cement NewsCement production in India reached 16.79Mt in March, up 5.1% YoY. Cement despatches reached 16.71Mt in March, up 4.4% YoY. Accumulated production for the year April 2010 to March 2011 reached 168.26Mt, compared to 160,75Mt for the same period a year earlier. Accumulated despatches for the same period reached 167.15Mt, up by 4.6% from 159.84Mt recorded over the same period a year earlier. |
Pakistan cement exports show growth21 April 2011, Published under Cement NewsPakistan exported 1.573Mt of cement and earned US$43m in March 2011 compared to 588,386t at US$22.5m in February 2011. This reflects a huge MoM growth of 167% and 91% in terms of quantity and dollar value, respectively. Afghanistan was the largest buyer of cement from Pakistan during this period.
