Pakistan likely to lift ban on cement exports

Pakistan is very likely to lift ban off cement export to India latest by next month, which will allow transportation of cement to its neighbour overland, Geo News reported on Monday. 

 Federal government sources told Geo News that a summary seeking ratification of cement exports to India through the Wagha route has been sent to the cabinet by the ministry of Trade and Production. The source said that a notification was likely to be issued after receiving approval from the prime minister.

Saudi Cement profit up 19%, Saudi Arabia

Saudi Cement Co, Saudi Arabia’s second-biggest cement producer by market value, said-first quarter profit rose 19 per cent as production efficiency increased with additional capacity. Kim Eng Securities expects Thai conglomerate Siam Cement’s 1Q11 earnings to be strong at THB8bn (+19% QoQ, +17% YoY) with continuing growth. Podilskyi Tsement to increase output 15.3%, Ukraine

Ukrainian producer Podilskyi Tsement plans to increase cement output by 15.3% this year, or up 0.2Mt to 1.5Mta. Podilskyi Tsement increased production volume in 2010 by 8.33% or 0.1Mt to 1.3Mt compared with 2009. The company, a subsidiary of CRH, operates a six-kiln wet process plant in south-western Ukraine  which is currently being replaced by a state-of-the-art dry-process plant. The new kiln will have a clinker capacity of 2.5Mta and cement capacity could exceed 3Mta.  

Shree Cement revives Raipur cement plan, India

Shree Cement, the biggest in the northern region, is to set up a clinker plant in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This is the first time the company is expanding its presence outside Rajasthan. Turkey’s Sabanci cement group is seeking acquisitions in the region and could spend between TRL1bn-1.5bn (US$660-$988m) on buy-outs this year, its chairman Mehmet Gocmen said. Spanish cement demand up 2.2% in first-quarter

Spanish cement consumption in the first quarter reached 5.2Mt, representing a 2.18% increase compared with the same period last year. On a monthly basis, March 2011 consumption was down 6.4% to 1.99Mt. The upward trajectory of exports has been maintained, up 33.62% in the last 12 months to 3.92Mt. Imports continued their decline as they fell 35.7% during the same period to 1.75Mt.
