Botswana firm receives mark of quality

Matsiloje Portland Cement (MPC) has been awarded BOS ENV 197-1:1992, a certificate of quality, by the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS). BOBS handed the certificate to MPC at the company’s factory in Matsiloje Village last Friday. Siberian Cement to acquire 51% in Angarskcement, Russia

Kemerovo region’s Siberian Cement intends to purchase 51% shares in Irkutsk region-based Angarskcement for $62m from RATM holding, Kommersant reports. The buyer is reportedly to get RATM’s shares in Angarskcement plant, Pereval mine and Bystrinsky deposit. As a result of the deal, the Siberian Cement is to grow its share in Angarskcement to 100%, the newspaper said. The deal is scheduled to be closed in May-June 2011.

Salt River Materials Group seeks tax reduction, USA

Salt River Materials Group ( SRMG) , owners of the Phoenix Cement Plant in Clarkdale, Arizona is seeking a US$60m reduction in the assessed value of the company’s personal property at the Clarkdale plant – ie the value of the plant itself, not the land on which it sits.

Turkish exports rise 7.38% in 2010

Turkish cement exports increased by 7.38 per cent in 2010 compared to 2009, according to the Union of Turkish Cement Producers. Clinker exports, however, fell 29.7 per cent YoY. In 2009, the country exported 14Mt of cement while in 2010 exports reached 15.06Mt. Last year clinker exports amounted to 2.77Mt against 3.95Mt in 2009. Exports from the Mediterranean region registered the highest increase last year up 50.1 per cent YoY.

Argentina March sales rise

After the 3.7 per cent monthly decline witnessed in February, Argentina shipped 924,684t in March (including exports) which represented a MoM improvement of 10.9 per cent and an annual rise of 3.1 per cent.

 According to provisional data from the Association of Portland Cement Manufacturers (AFCP), domestic shipments totaled 911,933t, 11.3 per cent more than February and 4.6 per cent above the March 2010 figures.

The Dangote Group of Nigeria and Chinese firm Sinoma have entered into a fresh US$3.9bn contract to be executed in six African nations. Ulyanovskcement boosted by production revival, Russia

ZAO Ulyanovskcement (Ulyanvosk region, Russia), a member of the Eurocement Group, reported a 65% increase in cement production for the first quarter of 2011, boosting volumes to 205,000t.   In March the company produced 91,000t of cement, up 42% on the same period last year.
