RINL asked to explore cement plant options in Visakhapatnam, India

Union Minister of State for Steel (Independent Charge) Beni Prasad Verma, who reviewed the quarterly performance of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) has asked RINL to explore the possibility of setting up a slag cement plant at Visakhapatnam.

Anhui Conch Cement 2010 net profit CNY6.16bn

Anhui Conch Cement Co, China’s largest cement maker by output, said Monday its net profit rose 76% last year due to higher product prices and volume. The company said its net profit for the 12 months ended Dec. 31 was CNY6.16bn (US$938m), up from CNY3.51bn a year earlier. Revenue rose 38% to CNY34.51bn from CNY25.00bn. Shares in Readymix dropped 10 per cent yesterday after the cement maker confirmed that all talks with potential buyers have ended. The drop saw shares back to the lowest level since news of a takeover approach was first revealed back in October. Romania’s 2010 cement production drops 11%

Cement production in Romania fell by 11% last year to 6.92Mt, according to the Romanian association of cement producers, Cimrom, local daily Ziarul Financiar reported on Monday. Domestic cement sales fell by 12% to 6.85Mt, while exports rose threefold to 9800t, Ziarul Financiar reported. Gresik withdraws US$73.5m loan, Indonesia

Indonesian cement company PT Semen Gresik has withdrawn IDR660bn (US$73.5m) from a syndicated loan of IDR3.55trn loan to finance construction of new cement factories in Tuban, East Java, and Tonasa in South Sulawesi. Nova Cimangola opens new cement mill, Angola

A new cement mill, with the capacity to produce 1.8Mta of cement, against the current 1.2Mt, was inaugurated Monday in Nova Cimangola, in Luanda. 
The project, estimated at US$21m, was funded by the company itself and will reduce imports into the country.

Cemex to supply largest hydropower project in Central America

Cemex announced today that it has been named the primary cement supplier for the first phase of Reventazón hydroelectric plant project in Costa Rica. The US$1.2bn plant will be the largest of its kind in Central America when the 311MW facility reaches completion in 2016. Cement production in the Czech Republic kept falling last year, but at a slower rate than 2009. NNS Holding, controlled by the Sawiris family, had raised its stake in Lafarge to 14.06%. At end-2010, the Egyptian shareholder had a 13.9% stake in the French group. In March, the investor bought Lafarge shares worth EUR19.5m. It particular, it acquired 469,047 shares on March 18, 21 and 22.
